Story and script written by James B. Winburn
The year is 1948.
Sam Puckett and his wife Gloria climbs out of their 1948 black sedan. In the back seat in
James a eleven year old son of Sam and Gloria. Barbara a nice looking fourteen year
sister to James, is calling to her mother, that James is acting up again. James see his
father and mother is not paying any attention to Barbara. James starts laughing and
Barbara is planning her revenge.
This is the first time for many of years that Sam visit his father farm in Waco Kentucky,
where he raise as a boy. James really doesn't wants to visits his grand parent farm, he
rather be back in Cincinnati with his friends this summer, running the streets. As James
sit in the back seat of the black sedan he flashes back to his mother kitchen.
Gloria
It will keep you kids off the city street for a summer.
James
Right, If that is true, than why am I on the street through
the winter time? The streets in Cincinnati never changes,
summer or winter. The crime rate is always same. Specially
on Riverside park area.
James (continue)
Not only that. I just don't want to go to dad father
farm for the summer. That will screw up my hold
summer.
Gloria
Where do you pick up word, like screw up? You'll like it.
Fresh air, no city sounds, farm animals. You will have a
Time.
Out of Flash back to present time
James climbs out of the car and runs up the path toward the old civil war Victorian type
two story farm house. His grand-father turns to James. But, James runs past him and
starts up the old wooden steps onto the porch to the front door. Just as James grand-
mother comes out the front door, slamming the door into James, knocking him backward,
down the old wooden steps to ground. James lays on the ground as his father Sam and
the family rushes to him. James head is spinning. White flashes and the sound of voices
are getting farther and farther away and the screen goes dark.
Int. Bedroom - Day. Camera moves slowly across the room from the window to James
lying in an old fashion type bedroom bed. James hears voices, as his eyes starts focusing,
from darkest to dark shadows with bright light surrounding their body. He think it his
mother Gloria and his father Sam. James rubs his eyes as he sits up in bed. James is
wake and he looks around the room and see all new faces standing and looking down at
him. He yells out.
James
Who are you?
A hand touches him. He turns to see a middle age woman with a warm smile.
Middle age women
Son, son.. It mother!
Middle age man
James, it so good to seeing you a wake. Its
been a long time.
A older man dress in 1865 wardrobe come to the edge of the bed.
Doctor Peabody Willows
James, I am Doctor Willows. I know you are having some
problems, but I am here to help you. Would you like me to
move everyone out of the room, so we can talk?
James
Yes, Yes,
Everyone leaves the bedroom except the doctor.
James
Where am I? How did I get here? And, where is
my father and mother?
Doctor
You been in accident, boy. You been in this room
and this bed for 6 years. You had a very serious
head injury. You’r momma have you in a hospital
in Richmond for 7 years. Big Joe, your papa wanted
you home. So here you are. I knew one day you would
come around. You just need time to remember.
James just can’t understand what the doctor is saying to him.
James
You are saying I been in this bed for 13 years. That
can’t be? I was running up grandfather steps and
grandmother was coming out the front door, and
that all I remember..
James asks for a mirror. James looks into the mirror and see himself.
James
This is not me? I want me back. What is going on?
I want my mother.
The doctor explains that he been asleep for 13 years. The said, you are 24 years old now.
The year is 1865. The Yankees are beating the pants off the confederate and another a
couple of weeks the Civil war will be over with.
James can’t believe what he is hearing. Yankee is a baseball team, Confederate States,
Civil War? Its can’t be 1865.
James (continue)
I was born in 1937. I was visiting my grandparent
farm in Waco. The year was 1948. I am eleven year old,
not 24 year old?
James sits back and reflex on what going on.
David his older brother, Matthew Joseph second oldest, mother Puckett and Big Joe his
father stands looking down at him. Big Joe, starts telling James what happen to him and
what is currently going on since his accident. (page 15)
James now have two brothers David and Matthew. James believe this is all a dream and
some how he's been transported back into time - 1865, and now he is 24 year old in
some else body and the civil war is raging.
(Page 24 – 31) Ext. Barn - Night. James see a large number of men standing and milling
around the barn waiting for his father Big Joe. The men and Big Joe ride off. They are
going to raid the slave bounty hunters encampment on the edge of his property down by
the Kentucky river. Big Joe and the men capture the slave bounty hunters. After a small
rehearing, Big Joe hangs a number of bounty hunters leaders.
(Page 31 – 35). Int. Kitchen - Day. Big Joe is sitting at the large breakfast table reading
the Richmond newspaper, which is nine day old..
Head line - Lee’s surrender – 600,000 men died in the civil war.
Matthew comes running into the house yelling - April 14, 1865
Matthew
President Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilke
Booth at ford Theater in Washington DC.
(Page 38 -). Ext. Grazing Land back forty - Day. The brothers and James are rounding
up the cattle for the cattle drive. This will becomes the great adventure ever for James. A
cattle drive that will take him and his brothers across many states, fighting carpet
baggers, bandits, and ex- returning soldiers coming home to nothing.
This 97 minute film is truly a heart warming, action adventure for the hold family. You will
cheer, you will cry and you will feel the new found love through a young boy/man eyes
as he finds out what family and country is all about..
